Harpooning a Haiku

This is the poem which closes my new collection ‘Seeing Things’ distilled from 2000 words of text from an article in the London Review of Books:

The haiku lunges

Out of the dark ocean of text

Its flanks bejewelled

By sun, the way

A whale lunges out of the water

In Oban Bay.

  1. Is this a Haiku?

    What is wrong with Ted
At home in the dark world of Largs Bay
    His skype gone dead
    By choice, the way
    A desert rat
    Disappears down underground.
