We had just finished our main course washed down, of course, with a few glasses of red and asked the waiter for ‘the usual’ — complimentary ports and coffee. Imagine our surprise when the coffee was delivered with cake forks rather than teaspoons. Even the sugar bowl had a small fork. When I pointed this out to the waiter he apologized but explained that they had run out of teaspoons and forks were the best that they could do. I pointed out that they COULD DO BETTER!!! Consequently the waiter scurried off to the kitchen from whence he returned with a teaspoon. It was the best he could do. We would have to improvise.
